A native of Michigan, violinist Matthew Lehmann earned his Bachelor of Music at Michigan State University before completing graduate studies at the The Mannes and Manhattan Schools of Music. A student of former New York Philharmonic Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow, Matthew began his orchestral career in 2000 as Assistant Principal Second of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. He served as Assistant Concertmaster of the Harrisburg Symphony from 2002 to 2013, has been a tenured member of the Grant Park Symphony in Chicago since 2004, and has performed concerts and tours with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Beyond his work in classical music and on Broadway, Matthew has toured and recorded with an eclectic range of popular artists — Sting, Barbra Streisand, The Eagles, Peter Gabriel, Billy Joel, Elton John, and The Who among them. As a session musician, his playing appears on over 70 Hollywood film scores and on albums by Bruce Springsteen, Natalie Merchant, U2, Bruce Hornsby, Amy Winehouse, and Tony Bennett.
 
The unconventional hours of a music career have allowed Matthew the time and flexibility to build a deep connection to his home community of Harrington Park, NJ — volunteering at his children's school, coaching HP Minors baseball, and serving five years as an elected member of the Harrington Park Board of Education. His wife of 24 years, Ann Lehmann, also a professional violinist, shares many of these community roles with him, from Cub Scout den leadership to performing together as a duo at events and retirement homes throughout the New Jersey's Northern Valley. Each summer, the Lehmanns relocate to Chicago for the Grant Park Music Festival, where alongside ten weeks of free public concerts, they take part in mentoring young musicians and expanding music education and outreach in underserved communities.
